What is Breast Lift Surgery?

A breast lift (mastopexy) is a common surgical procedure that tightens the breast tissue & skin and lifts the nipple / areola to produce a more youthful, perky breast appearance. Most patients start to see the result of sagging due to pregnancy, weight changes, aging, and genetics. They find their breast skin and tissue lose elasticity and shape, and their areolas may dilate becoming disproportionately large as well. If enlargement of your areola is a concern, it can also be reduced in size during your breast lift surgery.

Who is a Candidate for Breast Lift Surgery?

Women with sagging breasts and excess loose skin, who are otherwise happy with the volume and size of their breasts, are good candidates for breast lift surgery. Breast lift surgery does not have to result in breast augmentation or breast enlargement. Instead, it can provide you with more shapely breasts that stand upright and do not sag. How Is The Surgery Performed? What Are The Risks?

Breast lift surgery is performed in a fully licensed outpatient surgery center. General anesthesia is used.
The procedure typically takes 2–3 hours and is performed Most patients require a week off of work to recover. Sometimes women take a longer period off work if the work is strenuous. Scars are usually well hidden from view by regular clothing. It will take a month before you can resume any exercise.

Common Breast Concerns:

• When you feel your breasts are not proportional to your body.
• Not liking the look of your breasts because of lost shape and/or fullness due to pregnancy, weight loss, or aging.
• Unhappy with the inconsistent size / shape resulting from abnormal natural development, mastectomy, or injury.
• Uncomfortable with the fit or look of your bust line in clothing/bathing suits or bras.

Recovery and Aftercare

Follow-up visits are included in the procedure and will be arranged at the Rockville, Maryland, or McLean, Virginia, locations, both near Washington DC.
Following the plastic surgery procedure, breast lift patients should expect some post-operation effects and should follow specific instructions as described below.

  Patients may experience some degree of bruising and swelling. The first two days are usually the most uncomfortable. Pain medication will be prescribed for this. An antibiotic and an anti-nausea medication are also prescribed.

• Limit activity for the week following surgery.
• Avoid strenuous activities for about one month.
• Patients can typically return to work after the first week.
• A surgical bra should be worn for the first two weeks following surgery.
• Some constipation is common when taking pain medications. Added fruit, fiber, and stool softeners are recommended before and after surgery.
• Post-surgical breast augmentation massage is a key component in having a great outcome. Patients will be instructed on performing proper breast augmentation massage after

Insurance Guidelines

In Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC, breast enhancement is usually deemed cosmetic in nature and is therefore not covered by insurance. An exception is when the indication for surgery was due to breast reconstruction.
